Bezalel was a unique figure of the bible, as are most artists. Some would call artists quirky, weird, odd, or mysterious. Bezalel was a figure who was granted favor from God. He was given artistic skill and talent to complete a very important task. He was to create art! Read Exodus 35:30-35. Bezalel was filled with the Holy Spirit to create art.
Imagine, an artist called unimportant, unable to make money, and unvalued. Most of our world calls the arts just that. The “starving artist” (an unfair statement) of our time has been called by God to create beautiful work. We are not only made in the image of God, but the arts have been undervalued. Stop and imagine our God who has the power to breathe life into creative works so that others can read the visual language which is God’s spirit.
The visual and musical language is one in which history has moved mountains! Think about every aspect of power, of influence, of praise, and you will often mention some form of art, whether it be theater, music, writing, dance, or studio. Each has its place and each artist a calling to create. Take the time to think about all that we were created for and thank God that the arts are the Lord’s.
